The Stornoway Historical Society is proud to announce the launch of its latest publication, ‘Fallen War Heroes of Stornoway and District’, compiled by Malcolm Macdonald, on Friday 27th June 2014 in Museum nan Eilean at 9.30pm. The book gives an account of all men and women from the town who are known to have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country from the Spanish-American War of 1898 onwards.

This event will follow the premiere of Donald S Murray’s Gaelic play, ‘Sequamur’ which will be held earlier the same evening at An Lanntair beginning at 7.30pm. Further information is available from www.lanntair.com

Following the end of the play a piper will lead the audience to up to Museum nan Eilean (old Francis St school building) where a commemorative plaque to the former Nicolson Institute pupils who fell in the Great War hangs. A small exhibition will accompany the book launch featuring wartime photos and personal stories of the men named on the plaque. There will be a small drinks reception at the Museum but numbers are restricted, and prior booking will be necessary. To book a place at the launch please contact Iain Beggs on 01851 704493. Museum nan Eilean will be open to the general public the following day (Saturday 28th June) between 11am and 3pm for people to view the exhibition.

‘Fallen War Heroes’ is priced at £15 per copy and will be available very soon from local shops or directly from the Society plus £3.00 postage.
